Today we gathered at the HK airport. We were supposed to take off at 0035, however due to some technical problems of our plane’s number one engine, our flight was delayed. In the end, we spent a few hours at the boarding gate. Finally, at 5:45 am, we got on the plane. Although we have spent a lot of time waiting for the plane to take off, we appreciated a lot the effort of the cabin crew. They helped us to find food and provided some blankets for us. Although we had quite a hard time, we didn’t complain much because there are many vulnerable people suffering in different parts of the world. During this incident, we learnt how to persist and think positively as well as to treasure what we have. We have learnt a lot through this unforgettable experience.

The first day of our trip was a very memorable day for us all. Our plane was delayed for several hours due to technical problems. Although we slightly felt frustrating, we made use of the time to rest, chat and play games. Soon we were safely on board the plane to London. This experience taught us to think flexibly and manage our problems

Since the Impeiral College Summer Course hadn’t started yet, we visited the Covent Garden with our spare time in the afternoon. We took the tube to the Covent Garden, a first experience of the tube for many of our team members. During the journey and visit one of the things that struck us most was the traditional British architecture of the buildings. As Hong Kong was once a colony of Great Britain, we noticed a certain resemblance between those buildings and some old buildings in Hong Kong.

However, the pace and style of living in London is very different from that of Hong Kong. For example, in the Covent Garden, there were many street performances where people could show their skills and talents. Passersby were very interesting these performances and often stopped to match and clap. We, too, found these performances very interesting. Also there were many stalls selling different wares, many of which were handmade. It was a place where people could make use of their talents and skills, as well as exchange of ideas with others.

The Imperial College Summer School Course will start tomorrow. We are very much looking forward to it and hope that though it, we can learn more knowledge, broaden our minds and build a foundation for future learning

Today was our first day in London. Due to some technical difficulties, we arrived in London later than scheduled. We were to first drop off our luggage at Queen Mary University and familiarize ourselves a bit with London before starting courses at the Imperial College on Monday

We made our way to Covent Garden by Tube, England’s personal underground railway network. We were given the opportunity to discover the different lifestyles in London such as that of street performers which are uncommon in Hong Kong.

Moreover, we were impressed by the different architectural styles which are unique from Hong Kong’s modern architecture. Most of the architecture in London is preserved since the Middle Ages.

However, even though London has many impressive qualities, it is much less convenient. Most of the shops were already closed by evening and we were unable to locate a single convenience store.

All in all, we feel lucky to have been given the chance to try something new.

Today, we left for London for the Imperial College stem Course, a day which we had all been looking forward to.

Unfortunately, there were slight technical problems with the plane, and as a result our flight was delayed for around six hours. We made use of that time to rest, chat and play.

As the Summer School had not started yet, we went to the Covent Garden for some sightseeing. Evening was new and fascinating for us, from the tube ride to the elegant buildings on the street. We found that London was a vibrant city full of art and life, contrary to our expectations of a densely packed metropolitan city.

The Covent Garden, too, was full of surprises and interesting sights. In the Market, there were stalls and shops selling all types of wares, such as paintings, bracelets, photograph frames. There were also numerous street performers including magic shows and music performances.

When it was time for dinner, we found that most shops had already closed at 5 or 6 pm, which came as a shock to most of us as we were used to the convenience in Hong Kong. We finally, decided on trying out the food from a stall selling delicious pizzas and waffles, we had a very enjoyable dinner.

Although we were a little tired and worn out, we all agreed that it had been a very fruitful and eventful day.

Today was the first day of our study tour. Our plane was supposed to take off at 00:35. However, there were some technical problems with the plane. Its departure time was therefore delayed for about five hours. We de-boarded the plane and waited at the boarding gate patiently. Our plane finally took off at about 6:00am and eventually landed safely in London. This was really an unforgettable experience for us all!

Today, we went to Covent Garden. We saw many street performers showcasing their talents to earn a living. A group of performers were playing string instruments. They were very humorous and interactive. They invited the audience to participate in their show. All audience enjoyed themselves very much, some even bought their CDs. From this, we learnt to think flexibly. Moreover, we’ve learnt that even though they seemed to be relaxed, they have spent lots of time practicing. We learnt that we need to be persistent. People in Britain are very friendly. They talked to us while we were enjoying the street show.
